The purpose of this research is to study the prevalence of dementia in individuals of DP, assessing the cognitive impairment of 30 patients. All patients underwent the following assessments: cognitive function by the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE); memory by List of Words for fixing and Recall (LWFR); commitment of attention in the test of Verbal Fluency (animals) and executive functions and visuoespaciais as the clock drawing test. A descriptive study was conducted by the application of the research protocol and tests previously cited. The patients were mostly male (63.3%), in the age group of 60-65 years old (43.3%), presenting between 1-7 years of schooling (56.7%). For testing, the MMSE showed to be amended in 20% of cases, the LWFR in 66.7%, the Verbal Fluency in 26.6% and 40% clock drawing with serious commitment. As the MMSE the main method of screening, concluded that the prevalence of dementia in the study population was 20%. A doença de Parkinson caracteriza-se pela redução da influência dopaminérgica nigroestriatal e cortical, com sintomas motores e posteriormente comportamentais e cognitivos, entre eles a demência, que tem sua prevalência aumentada com a idade, sendo uma doença essencialmente de idosos. A finalidade da presente pesquisa é estudar a prevalência de demência em portadores da doença de Parkinson, avaliando o comprometimento cognitivo de 30 pacientes. Todos os pacientes foram submetidos as seguintes avaliações: função cognitiva pelo Mini Exame do Estado Mental (MEEM); memória pela Lista de Palavras para Fixação e Recordação (LPFR); comprometimento da atenção no teste da Fluência Verbal (animais) e funções visuoespaciais e executivas com o Teste do Relógio.Foi realizado um estudo descritivo através da aplicação de protocolo de pesquisa e dos testes anteriormente citados. Os pacientes foram majoritariamente do sexo masculino (63,3%), na faixa etária de 60-65 anos (43,3%), apresentando entre 1-7 anos de escolaridade (56,7%). Em relação aos testes realizados, o MEEM mostrou-se alterado em 20% dos casos; o LPFR em 66,7%; a Fluência Verbal em 26,6% e o Teste do Relógio 40% com comprometimento grave.
