The present study presents an experience report of the teaching of mathematics to a multi-grade class of the first cycle of elementary education, in a rural school in the municipality of Cachoeira do Arari, located in the island of Marajó, in the State of Pará. adopted is included in the bibliographic review, which made it possible to find the knowledge related to the theme. Thus the authors referenced in this report give the theoretical support to the development of the experience and to the report consolidated herein. At the end of this report it is understood that being a teacher of a multi-grade school of the rural school, goes beyond teaching the students, because it is understood that it is necessary to make a difference, respecting the existence of diverse times and ways of being, living and producing . And what model of serial and multi-syllabic education must be (re) seen. However, one should not lose sight of the complexity of the rural school setting. The problems faced by these schools go beyond what happens in classrooms and are related to the education and society project in place.
