Introduction: The nutritional intervention indicated for obesity treatment is based on the
introduction of new eating habits, an act that requires time, perseverance and patience that may
represent a barrier to adherence to nutritional treatment. Society commonly relates weight gain
to a disease status, and, this though leads to inadequate methods of weight management and
undesirable eating behaviors. Objective: To investigate the relationship between the adherence
to nutritional treatment and the risk of developing eating disorders in obese people.
Methodology: Quantitative study conducted in a university hospital in BelémPA. To
characterize the risk of development of eating disorders, we used the Eating Disorders Inventory
3, a selfadministered questionnaire that assesses attitudes, emotions, and behaviors through
three specific scales resulting in the following risk classification: lower, moderate and high.
The evaluation of adherence to nutritional treatment was classified as: adhesion, difficulty of
adhesion, withdrawal and nonadherence according to the presence in the consultations and
adequacy to the proposed food plan. Later, data was tabulated and stored in Excel software
(Microsoft Office 2016). Results: The sample consisted of 17 patients (women = 70.59%, men
= 29.41%), mean age of 39 (±12,9) years, BMI of 41.52 (±7,6) kg/m². The highest scores for
the desire to lose weight (p=0.024) and bulimia scales (p=0.017) were for women. Patients were
classified as having difficulty in adherence (17,65%) and withdrawal (64,29%). Conclusion:
Although a moderate risk for women and high risk for men in relation to eating disorders was
found in the patients evaluated, it is observed that there is no statistical significance between
the studied variables. |
