Bibliotherapy is a learning about reading therapy that helps people control their feelings and so look for ways to deliberate their problems as psychological as well as physical. Thus, this statement needs to be thoroughly managed in its studies, a study on the practices of bibliotherapy should be conducted. Based on this, a bibliographical research focused on offering a theoretical reference about the bibliotherapy aimed at the elderly with low self-esteem and the memory of the same and treat as a therapeutic function of the reading. Its general objective is to discuss how reading therapy can reactivate memory and motivate the elderly. And specific objectives: to search in the literature studies on bibliotherapy and bibliotherapy for the elderly; to argue how the bibliotherapy can influence the daily life of the elderly .; to identify the relation of Librarianship in the application of bibliotherapy for the elderly. The methodology applied in this study was that of bibliographical research in periodicals and in this case, dissertations, monographs, scientific articles, congress articles and books were searched in different databases (Scielo, Portal Capes, physical and virtual libraries, academic and others) and with the support of the works of Clarice Fortkamp Caldin and Marc-Alain Ouaknin, authors responsible for much of the production of this theme. From the research, one can present as a result of the lack of bibliography as a segment of librarianship, focused on the elderly, highlighting in this sense the low participation of specific projects of bibliotherapy for the elderly. This study ends with the focus on the elderly have a special place in society and need a care and a humanized environment in which they feel good when they reach senior citizens, the family is the real and main support for the elderly.
