This work aims to analyze the Paes de Carvalho Reservoir in several aspects, not only in its visible, functional, iconographic, and historical structures, but in its symbolic characterstics and the comprehension of these features in the formation of the affective memory of the city of Belém. It is known that many people don’t remember and are aware the Water Tower and its history. Therefore, this work intents to recover part of these memories, reassuring and reinforcing the presence of the Water Tower in the collective memory of the city, since it has already disappeared physically from the city’s landscape. Kevin Lynch's “Points of Interest” and concepts from the historical art-theorist Vitor Serrão were used to understand the relationship of the population towards the presence and subsequently absence of the Reservoir in the city, in contrast of the Water Tower in its collective memory
