Introduction: Multiple Myeloma is a rare disease in the universe of pathologies, but it
stands out among hematological malignancies, especially in men from the sixth
decade of life. Its development is insidious, making the diagnosis difficult and late. The
resources for treatment are broad, including the possibility of Bone Marrow
Transplantation. The prognosis is also heterogeneous. The same therapy bring
different responses. Objective: Identify factors that modify the expected response to
Bone Marrow Transplantation, including epidemiological and clinical outcomes.
Method: The medical records of the last 10 years of service of a public hospital were
reviewed to identify those who performed the transplant. The analysis was divided into
time axes of diagnosis, chemotherapy and pre / post transplantation in order to analyze
the same variables in each one and to determine if there was a change in the prognosis
by the presence of some factor over time. Results: In the last 10 years, the Hospital
totaled 147 patients with MM and, of these, 22 underwent transplantation of MO. The
participants of the research had on average 55 years, performed 6 chemotherapeutic
cycles, mainly using the CTD regimen. The patients' stage was mostly III on the ISS
scale. When analyzing the laboratory tests, it was identified that the mean of Hb and
Alb were markers of transplant success. In addition, their values at the time of
diagnosis directly impact disease-free survival. Conclusion: We identified a
correlation between clinical and epidemiological data similar to those found in the
literature, except for the mean age, which was lower in this study. It was found that the
mean values of hemoglobin and albumin over the treatment time were directly related
to the transplant result, corroborating an impact on the survival of the patients who
performed bone marrow transplantation. |
