Resumo:
In all countries of the world, the Civil Construction Industry (ICC) has a relevant space as a sector of technological, economic and social development, bringing improvements in infrastructure and social conditions. In Brazil, this dynamic is no different, since the ICC is one of the companies that most adds value to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country, in addition to being a great generator of jobs. Thus, this study seeks to verify the correlation between socioeconomic indicators and the performance of the ICC, in addition to analyzing the cause and effect relationship of this correlation, which, given the economic and social importance of this industry, makes this relationship an object of academic and political interest, justifying investments and strategic priorities. For this, the methodology used involves the collection of relevant macroeconomic data for the elements in question in the country in a period from 2003 to 2020, such as: Gross Domestic Product (GDP), GDP Per Capita (GDPpc), Gross Added Value at Basic Prices Civil Construction (VABpb CC), number of people formally employed in Brazil, number of people formally employed in the Civil Construction segment (CC), Human Development Index (HDI) and the average salary in CC. With these data subjected to statistical analysis, such as Pearson's Correlation and Granger's Causality, statistically significant relationships between the variables under study were investigated, thus obtaining a strong relationship between GDP, PIBpc, VABpb CC and formal jobs in the CC, in addition to the evidence of a process of deindustrialization in the country. There was no evidence of a cause and effect relationship between the economic context and the performance of the ICC, that is, if there is effectively a causal relationship between the two, as well as a process of deindustrialization in the country of the sector in general and in the ICC as well.
