The work reports the experience of a case study in the organization of documents from the Neves Family's Personal archive, which has accumulated documents from the period 1962-2022. Is it problematic to verify how archival methods can collaborate for the elaboration of instruments for organizing personal archives? Therefore, the general objective is to present the Personal Archive of the Family and understand the context of its accumulation in order to propose the development of organizational instruments for the archive. And as specific objectives to carry out a review of the literature on personal files; identify the existing document typologies in the archive and verify if there is any organization; adapt which document organization methodology is the most suitable for the archive and execute a document organization and treatment process. In the theoretical framework, an approach is made to personal archives in archival science. For the identification of the file, the archival diagnosis was carried out, through which the data used as a basis for the elaboration of the instruments that helped the archivist in the organization of the Personal Archive of the Neves Family, which are, the Classification Plan and the Temporality Table, finally, the documents of the Neves Family file was classified and organized following the instruments prepared as well, it was found that each file has its own characteristics and documents, and the organization is specific to each existing situation for the personal archive.
