The research consists of an exploratory research, of a qualitative nature, on the personal archives guarded by the Central Archive, Central Library and Museum of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA). The problem was to verify which methods are used for the technical treatment of these collections and which archival principles are applied for their organization. Thus, the general objective of the work was to identify the personal files in custody of the Central Archive, Central Library and UFPA Museum and to understand how UFPA deals with personal archives. The specific objectives consist of understanding private and personal archives within the scope of Archival Science and identifying and understanding the activities of identification, acquisition, treatment and access to personal archives held by the Central Archive, Central Library and Museum of UFPA. The justification comes from the knowledge of the existence of a vast set of personal collections in UFPA. The theoretical framework presents an approach to personal archives within the scope of Archival Science and its perspective of memory, as well as the way in which these collections are recognized as of public and social interest and their incorporation into archival institutions. In order to identify the personal archives in the University, visits were made to the selected units and semi-structured questionnaires were applied. As a result, the existence of a vast set of personal archives at UFPA was confirmed, in addition to observing an absence of institutional policies for the acquisition and treatment of personal archives, based on the observation that each custody unit establishes its own methods for identification, treatment and access to personal archives. Os arquivos pessoais são documentos produzidos por indivíduos no decurso de suas atividades cotidianas. A pesquisa consiste em uma pesquisa exploratória, de caráter qualitativo, sobre os arquivos pessoais custodiados pelo Arquivo Central, Biblioteca Central e Museu da Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA). A problemática foi verificar quais métodos são utilizados para o tratamento técnico desses acervos e quais os princípios arquivísticos são aplicados para sua organização. Desse modo, o objetivo geral do trabalho foi identificar os arquivos pessoais sob custódia do Arquivo Central, Biblioteca Central e Museu da UFPA e compreender como a UFPA lida com acervos pessoais. Os objetivos específicos consistiram em conceituar os arquivos privados e pessoais no âmbito da Arquivologia, bem como identificar e compreender as atividades de reconhecimento e aquisição, tratamento e acesso dos acervos pessoais custodiados pelo Arquivo Central, Biblioteca Central e Museu da UFPA. A justificativa para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa se deu a partir da identificação da existência de um vasto conjunto de acervos pessoais custodiados pelas unidades de informação da UFPA. O referencial teórico apresenta uma abordagem sobre os arquivos pessoais no âmbito da Arquivologia e sua perspectiva no campo teórico sobre memória, assim como a maneira que ocorre o reconhecimento desses acervos como de interesse público e social e sua incorporação às instituições arquivísticas, no âmbito da legislação brasileira. Para a identificação dos acervos pessoais custodiados pela UFPA, foram realizadas visitas técnicas às unidades de custódia e a realização de uma entrevista semi-estruturada com os técnicos das unidades.
