This work exposes, through bibliographical research, the importance of the library in penitentiary establishments, through the promotion of reading and other products and services that the prison library offers for the resocialization of the prisoner. Points The contributions of the library in combating recidivism to crime. Addresses the concept of resocialization, the responsibility that the State has in the resocialization of those who are in its custody. Displays the Library definition and library types. And through qualitative research, in loco, analyzes the mediation of information, organization and use of the Library of State Prison Metropolitan II (PEM II), As well as presenting the data obtained through empirical research, making relevant considerations about the results. Finally, it exposes considerations and expectations about the library theme in penitentiaries.
