Resumo:
The monograph entitled “Celibacy as a representation of religious domination in the novel Eurico, o presbítero” (1844), aims to analyze this work by Alexandre Herculano, to emphasize that celibacy represents what we will call in this work domination religious, as defined by Max Weber (1920), because its social imposition is propagated as divine, with the purpose of building an identity for the clergy. this question will be treated through the analysis of the character Eurico, along with fragments of the work that illustrate this religious domain figured through the institute of celibacy, with the purpose of identify how this domination is constituted in the development of the character, and the social consequences of the product of this domination that is celibacy in his life; at religious conventions that determined its sad outcome; the historical-aesthetic contribution will be based on Massaud Moisés (2013) and Max Weber (1920) among others
