“The Protagonism of Women in the Riozinho do Anfrísio Resex” explores the central role that women play in the Riozinho do Anfrísio Extractive Reserve, located in the Xingu River basin, in Terra do Meio/ Pará, showing how traditional practices and women’s knowledge contribute to the conservation of natural resources and the sustainable development of the region. The work contextualizes the history of occupation of the territory, highlighting the importance of rubber extraction and the formation of riverside communities, as well as the challenges faced by women due to deep-rooted machismo, which perpetuates gender inequality in the community. The text discusses how women are fighting for more autonomy and the preservation of traditional knowledge, such as the use of medicinal plants and midwifery practices, which are at risk of disappearing, through the narratives of riverside/extractivist women, with a view to uncovering the invisibility of women in that territory, contributing to the promotion of gender equality, community development, the recognition and appreciation of female protagonism, essential for a sustainable future in the Riozinho do Anfrísio Reserve.
