Aims to achieve two specific objectives: to identify the concepts and characteristics of library and archive professionals; to demonstrate theoretical basis to the classification techniques developed by each one and to present reports of professionals who act in these two areas, in order to know the discussions that surround the subject. Applies qualitative methodology, collecting data from interviews with two professionals from each area, discussing the classification applied to the activities of Archivists and Librarians. Verifies that both have many similarities, such as the use of the document as a main tool for the dissemination of information, however, they differ in the way they are classified and the purpose of it. As a result, highlights that despite the points of intersection, the instruments used in each area for classifying documents are different. In archives, the information is private, supports the needs of the institution to which it belongs, allowing the elaboration of its own manuals, to assist the representation of those documents. In libraries, there is no need for complementary support, since its instruments allow to classify all the subjects referring to any area of knowledge, attending to its objectives and providing access to information to whom it may interest. Thus, both in the libraries or archives, it is evident that the classification of documents is a fundamental part of the organization and retrieval of information. Aborda as principais similaridades e diferenças entre a Classificação de documentos da Arquivologia e Biblioteconomia. A pesquisa contou com os seguintes objetivos específicos: identificar conceitos e características das duas profissões; demonstrar respaldos teóricos sobre técnicas relacionadas à Classificação desenvolvida por cada uma e apresentar o relato de profissionais que exercem nessas duas áreas, a fim de conhecer as discussões que circundam esse assunto. A partir da metodologia aplicada, qualitativa com entrevistas realizadas com dois profissionais de cada área, cujo o intuito foi discutir a Classificação a partir dos fazeres profissionais de Arquivistas e Bibliotecários. Visto que ambos possuem muitas semelhanças dentre elas, como o uso do documento como ferramenta principal para a disseminação da informação, porém se diferenciam quanto a maneira de classificá-los e nas finalidades. Como resultado, destaca-se que apesar dos pontos de interseção, os instrumentos utilizados em cada área para classificar são distintos. No Arquivo as informações são privadas, dão suporte às necessidades da instituição a qual pertence, permitindo a elaboração de manuais próprios, para auxiliar a representação de seus documentos. Na Biblioteca não há necessidade de outro suporte complementar, pois seus instrumentos permitem classificar todos os assuntos referente a qualquer área do conhecimento, atendendo ao seu objetivo e proporcionando acesso a informação a quem interessar.
