Resumo:
This study examines the technical and economic feasibility of steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) as a substitute for conventional reinforced concrete (RC) in the structural reinforcement of beams, focusing on small to medium-sized buildings. A comprehensive literature review addresses the flexural behavior of SFRC and structural design guidelines, adhering to the Ultimate Limit States (ULS) and Serviceability Limit States (SLS) according to MC10 (2013). Comparative designs were developed for RC and SFRC beams in a prototype building, assessing mechanical properties and material costs. The findings reveal that SFRC, when appropriately dosed, can replace conventional steel reinforcements, achieving up to 70% steel reduction without compromising structural integrity. This advancement positions SFRC as an efficient and cost-effective solution for the construction industry.
