Resumo:
Youth and Adult Education (EJA) is a teaching modality that seeks to provide learning opportunities for those who did not have access to or did not complete basic education at the appropriate age. Despite efforts to democratize access to education, school dropout rates in EJA remain a significant challenge. The general objective of this research is to investigate the causes and consequences of dropout rates in Youth and Adult Education, aiming to understand the factors contributing to this phenomenon and propose strategies to address it, considering the reality of the state of Pará, particularly in municipal basic education schools such as Ipixuna do Pará. The specific objectives of this research are to identify the main reasons students abandon their studies, analyze the impact of dropout rates on the personal and social lives of students, and examine proposed interventions and educational policies. Using a bibliographic, exploratory, qualitative, and descriptive approach, the research reveals that socioeconomic issues, inadequate infrastructure, insufficient educational materials, and the need for better teacher training are critical factors contributing to school dropout rates. The impact of dropout is profound, negatively affecting social inclusion and development opportunities for individuals. Therefore, it is essential to develop specific educational policies and interventions that improve learning conditions and promote student retention in EJA.
