For that, an exploratory and bibliographical research was carried out, with a qualitative approach that allowed to reflect on Distance Education, based on the concepts that based the study of the EAD, as well as its historical evolution, besides the importance of the use of ICTs for this modality of teaching. From the analysis of the research, it was possible to perceive the importance of distance learning in librarianship and its reflexes in the educational life of students who did not have the opportunity in traditional teaching. In addition, they will bring impacts that will neutralize the situation of allocating teachers at the end of their careers, in libraries, providing more qualified professionals in the labor market, besides increasing the number of professionals in the country, in the public and private sectors, contributing to promote strong Improvement in general education, as well as enforcing what was established in Law 12244/2010. In general, Distance Education has become a new pedagogical model of teaching, to meet an increasingly growing demand both nationally and internationally, in order to meet the new educational requirements of society. Finally, it is pointed out that this new pedagogical proposal will contribute to the increase of vacancies in Federal public universities, as well as to help in the process of democratization in Brazilian Education. Análise da modalidade de educação à Distância para o ensino superior público Federal da Biblioteconomia, como caminho alternativo educacional no processo de democratização da educação brasileira. Para tanto, foi realizada pesquisa exploratória e bibliográfica, com abordagem qualitativa que permitiu refletir sobre a Educação à Distância, a partir dos conceitos que fundamentaram o estudo da EAD, bem como sua evolução histórica, além da importância do uso das TICS para essa modalidade de ensino. A partir da análise da pesquisa, foi possível perceber a importância do ensino à distância na biblioteconomia e seus reflexos na vida educacional de estudantes que não tiveram oportunidade no ensino tradicional. Além disso, trarão impactos que irão neutralizar a situação de alocar professores no fim de carreira, nas bibliotecas, disponibilizar profissionais mais qualificados no mercado de trabalho, além de aumentar o efetivo de profissionais no País, nos setores públicos e privados, contribuindo para promover forte melhoria na educação geral, como também, fazer cumprir o que foi estabelecido na a Lei 12.244/2010. De forma geral, a Educação à Distância se tornou um novo modelo pedagógico de ensino, para atender uma demanda cada vez mais crescente nacional e internacionalmente, com intuito de atender às novas exigências educacionais da sociedade.
