Resumo:
The present work is result of a meticulous literary research about the prawn Macrobrachium amazonicum carried out between July 2006 and May 2009. In the total, 64 scientific papers were researched, from congress abstracts to doctorate theses, available on Internet and in ten local libraries. Most of them talked about the cultivation of the species, suggesting the viability of this zootechnic activity. It aims to facilitate the development of future experiments and studies, especially concerning shrimp farming. Moreover, it can represent an initial point, in what relates to evidence and to define the existing blanks about the subject, clarifying eventual doubts, as well as serving as a consultation source for the continuance of researches on this area, besides enriching the scientific knowledge about the native species from Amazon, region of undoubted potential for cultivation.
