The research was bibliographic, documentary and exploratory, with a qualitative approach to contribute with the necessary actions for the best performance of the sector. In the analysis of the information flow was verified the need to improve the registration and availability of data in real time in the current National Sanitation Information System (SNIS). The information flow was analyzed and verified that it needs to improve the registration and availability of data in real time in the current National Sanitation Information System (SNIS). Furthermore, the delay in implementing the National Basic Sanitation Information System (SINISA) has hampered the collection, obtaining, systematization and dissemination of information in the planning and management of the sector. It was concluded that SINISA is an opportunity to adapt the current information flow to the objectives and needs for the effective development of public policy in the basic sanitation sector in Brazil. Analisa o sistema de informações de saneamento básico do Governo Brasileiro e sua importância para a gestão do setor, observando a qualidade, o acesso e a aplicabilidade da informação recomendados na Política Nacional de Saneamento Básico. A pesquisa foi bibliográfica, documental e exploratória, tendo abordagem qualitativa, para contribuir com as ações necessárias para o melhor desempenho do setor. Na análise do fluxo informacional foi constatada a necessidade de melhorar o registro e a disponibilização de dados em tempo real no atual Sistema Nacional de Informações em Saneamento (SNIS). Também o atraso na criação do Sistema Nacional de Informações em Saneamento Básico (SINISA) vem prejudicando a coleta, obtenção, sistematização e disseminação da informação no planejamento e na gestão do setor. Concluiu-se que a implantação do SINISA ainda é uma oportunidade para adequar o atual fluxo informacional aos objetivos e necessidades para o efetivo desenvolvimento da política pública do setor de saneamento básico no Brasil.
