General anesthesia depends on the correct dosage on the patient and, consequentially, the automatic control of this dosage becomes an important and challenging research field. For that propose, this work investigates the application of the type-2 fuzzy control’s technique in general anesthesia. Firstly, a literature review was made for the work, studying type-1 and interval type-2 fuzzy controllers and their application on general anesthesia to compose case study. After this study, a pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic mathematical model of the effect of the drugs Atracurium and Isoflurane in the human body was implemented. To design the Type-1 and interval type-2 fuzzy controllers, the Fuzzy Logic Toolbox was used in the MATLAB environment, and then, anesthesia control simulations were made on MATLAB starting from a mathematical model. At the same time, a small-scale, low-cost prototype was built to represent the real anesthesia control system. Simulation results showed type-2 fuzzy controllers’ superiority against type-1 with the same number of inputs, however it was possible to see that the bigger number of inputs were beneficial for type-2 control as well as type-1. And finally, a comparative analysis was made, thus the conclusion was that type-2 fuzzy logic is a good alternative to control multivariable and nonlinear systems. |
