Resumo:
Cases of poisoning in small animal are increasing and have gained prominence mainly in domestic cats. However, in the literature there are still few studies and data on the mainly in Amazonas, in the city of Manaus. Therefore, a retrospective study of the epidemiological profile of cats treated at 18 veterinary clinics in three areas of the city of Manaus – AM was carried out, between the years 2015 to 2020, with the objective of identifying the main toxicological agents responsible for intoxicationin these areas. All of the 214 clinical records of cats were evaluated based on presumptive and conclusive diagnoses of intoxication cases in these animals. The highest occurrence was found in patients aged 1 to 3 years (41%), with a prevalence in males (61%). In most cases, 162 (75,7%) of the 214 total cases it was not possible to identify the toxicologic agent, and the animals had only symptoms compatible with intoxication, the year with highest number of cases was 2020 with 18 cases (34,61%). Regarding confirmed cases, rodenticides stood out as the most obsesrved with 27 cases (51,9%) and the highest mortality rate 19 deaths (70%). Among the reported cases, drug poisoning is also highlighted as the second largest cause of clinical care with 12 cases (23%), mainly reflecting the lack of information from tutors and owners. Most cases occurred in the most populous areas of Manaus with the eastern area being the most prevalent with 63 cases (38,8%) among the unconfirmed and 25 cases (48%) within the confirmed numbers.
