The use of the logistic model to estimate the growth rates of cases and deaths by Covid-19 has been shown to be adequate when compared to the reality of the State of Amazonas, Brazil. In Manaus, the variation of the social isolation index partially explains the drop in the number of deaths. The hypothesis of "herd immunity" is rejected and it is discussed how the theories of evolutionary ecology of diseases may explain the fact that the transition to the last phase of pandemic is happening earlier in Manaus than in the other epicenters.
