This research aims to raise awareness about the importance of chemical knowledge
for sustainability. In order to do this, workshops were carried out for the production
of biodegradable polymers from the Amazonian tubercle (cassava). The activity was
developed with students from the third year of high school of a public school in
the municipality of Coari, Amazonas, Brazil. The present methodology consisted
of the characterization of the project and the extraction of the starch contained in the tubers and the ministry of workshops for the production of biodegradable
plastic. The project contributed to the students’ awareness about the importance
of the sustainable use of Amazonian raw materials, in addition to collaborating for
the teaching of chemistry concepts through experimental practice. Thus, students
could re ect on the scienti c knowledge used for the development of society and
the social role of Chemistry in the environment. |
