This research deals with the information professional in the context of Industry 4.0, having as a general objective to verify the axes of knowledge related to the performance of the information professional in the context of Industry 4.0, and what are the competencies required for their performance, contextualized in knowledge, skills and attitudes. The specific objectives seek to characterize the Industry 4.0 in contemporary society, identifying possible changes in the performance of information professionals; categorize axes of knowledge about the topics published on the information professional in the context of I4.0, and identify with experts which competencies are necessary for their performance. This is a research with a qualitative approach, of applied nature, using the method of bibliographic and field research to study the theme. The results showed that the identification of the axes of knowledge were structured as to the professional "Environment" of librarians, as to the "Profession", which consists of acting by skills, as to the "Information Products and Services", and as to the "Management" of the processes in the organization. Regarding the competencies identified through the literature review and the experts' assessment, the most mentioned competencies were the need for constant updating by information professionals, proactivity, creativity, leadership, mastery of information technology, information and knowledge management. The results indicate that the role of the information professional is essential in the context of I4.0, in order to humanize the productive processes, which tend to be gradually more virtualized, since the organization, treatment, and retrieval of information in the most diverse supports, is their main professional attribution.
