Objectives and Justification: The purpose of this study was to conduct a literature review, aiming to measure the importance of hospital management and its impact on professionals and patients, with emphasis on room turnover time. To demonstrate the relevance of optimizing room turnaround time for the service, as well as to evaluate strategies that can be used to optimize the dynamics between one surgery and another.
Content: The OR is one of the most complex structures of the hospital network, the proper functioning depends on an excellent management as the lack of it implies in the quality and outcome of the offered service. The interval between surgeries, also referred to as turnover time or room turnover time, can be approached in different ways, according to the perspective of the professional involved, whether it's a nurse, anesthesiologist or surgeon.
Conclusions: From the analysis of the existing literature, it is possible to identify factors that influence the productivity of the OR. It was found the occurrence of frequent delays in the operating room, which negatively affects hospital revenue, the routine of professionals and, consequently, the service offered to the patient. However, it was observed that it is feasible to increase and improve the OR capacity through good management and training of the professionals involved.
