Androgenic Anabolic Steroids (AAS) are natural precursor compounds or testosterone derivatives, is the male sex hormone. In females, it is produced in smaller quantities by the ovaries. AAS has several clinical uses, including male hormone replacement. These hormones have the property to increase muscles and for this reason are very sought after by athletes and practitioners of physical activities, however the increase of non-therapeutic consumption and illegal consumption of steroids is worrying. This study aims to evaluate the use profile of the main Androgenic Anabolic Steroids dispensed in a master pharmacy, emphasizing the substance oxandrolone. In the period from January to November 2021 a total of 1045 handling orders were found, 84% containing only oxandrolone and 16% containing oxandrolone and more associations, 57.6% of the patients belonged to the female gender. The most commonly used pharmaceutical form was oral capsules (85.2%), and the most common doses were 5 mg, 10mg and 20 mg. The most indicated dosage in the handling orders was one dose every 12 hours. It is concluded that the vast majority of users are women, the substance oxandrolone can be used for various clinical uses and non-therapeutic uses as for the improvement of athletic performance and for aesthetic purposes. The prescription of this substance should be careful due to the adverse effects that anabolic agents can cause and knowledge about them is of utmost importance for the prevention of its misuse.
