OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the functionality of active elderly people before and during the pandemic. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a longitudinal, observational study, with individuals aged 60 years or older, of both sexes, who practice physical activities and live in the city of Coari, in the interior of Amazonas, Brazil. To assess functionality, the Brazilian Oars Multidimensional Functional Assessment Quetionnaire (BOMFAQ) was applied, which identifies the difficulty in performing 15 daily activities, eight related to BADL and seven related to IADL. RESULTS: 63 elderly people make up the sample of this study. Most of the elderly were female 71.2% (47), 45.5% (16) were aged between 60 and 69 years and 31.8% (21) were illiterate. It was observed that 54% (34 elderly people) reduced their quality of life after the pandemic, while 38% (24) improved their QOL and 8% did not change. CONCLUSION: There is a presence of functionality in the studied population, which was little impacted when the elderly were evaluated during the pandemic. |
