Resumo:
The species Kalanchoe pinnata (lam.) pers. belonging to the crassulaceae family and popularly known as Coirama. Originating in Africa, India and the islands of the Indian Ocean, it measures about 75 cm in height, and is constantly used as a home remedy and with a popular foundation for various beneficial effects such as analgesic, soothing for erysipelas, healing, diuretic, among others. The objective of this work is to carry out a preliminary phytochemical prospection of the coirama Kalanchoe pinnata (lam.) pers, and based on this, to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the Hexanic and ethanolic extract of its leaves. The test to evaluate these extracts was based on the nutrient broth dilution methodology, which is standardized by the Clinical and Laboratory Stantards Institute (CLSI) and the European Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Committee. Through these tests, it was observed that the extracts of the coirama showed antimicrobial activity against the bacterium Shigella Flexineri at different concentrations. Therefore, this work may contribute and add to new studies that evaluate the antimicrobial potential of this plant.
