Resumo:
This study discusses the implementation of the software ALEPH in four units of Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). The investigation of this research assumed that the evolution of technology is the responsible factor that brings challenges to the information professionals. It is evident that library automation streamlines the librarian’s work and makes library management easier. In this aspect, the objective of the research was analyze the impacts of implementing the ALEPH system on libraries specialized in Public Health at Fiocruz Amazônia, Bahia, Minas and Pernambuco from the study about the perception of librarians, as well as, to map the perception of librarians and list the changes experienced in the library’s environment, analyzing the possible impacts suffered by these professionals. Because of this, the guiding question came from the following problem: What are the impacts of the implantation of the software ALEPH in the libraries specialized in public health from Fiocruz Amazon, Bahia, Minas and Pernambuco based on the librarian’s perception? The research used the case study method, with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The research objectives are classified as descriptive and exploratory. To develop the data of this research, a bibliographic survey was carried out in order to identify themes of automation and library management software. Data collection was made through a questionnaire applied to the four chief librarians of the aforementioned institutions. The results reveal that librarians consider ALEPH a good system, however, in addition to being an advance for Fiocruz Libraries, for to be an integrated system, however, they list disadvantage points that end up influencing the difficulties with using the software. In addition, it becomes clear that they need more training, since the system’s interface impacts directly in the development of their activities.
