An anthropological study of K-Pop fans in Manaus, who get together in public
squares, food courts, events, to consume cultural products from their Korean
idols and express their particularities and feelings of identity (Hall, 2003).
Information was collected about the emergence of K-Pop in South Korea and its
expansion in other countries, especially in Brazil and Manaus. This way analyzing
the existing fan categories in the local scene. We used participant observation
and ethnographic recording of different events (Cardoso de Oliveira, 2000;
Geertz, 1989), as well as netnography on social networks in interactions
established between fans (Kozinets, 2014). Based on Alfred Gell (2018),
considering the meaning of “art” and “agency”, and Pierre Bourdieu (2006) on
“cultural consumption”, we seek to interpret the meaning of K-Pop for groups of
fans, an expression culture (Bhabha, 1998) of Korean popular music. |
