The objective of this paper is to seek to understand the context in which the North American technology company Uber emerged, the factors that led to its entry in Brazil, as well as the reasons for its rapid growth. It used the theoretical and methodological contribution of the economic sciences, based on the guidelines of qualitative approaches, and had as its theoretical basis the reading of articles, monographs, dissertations, as well as books and websites. The main results indicate that the emergence of Uber takes place in the context of the advance of technologies, of the sharing economies, whose services have reduced bureaucracy in the relationship between agents that offer and demand certain services. The reasons for its insertion in Brazil are the ease of access, provided by the country, i.e., free of barriers. Its rapid growth is related to the problem of unemployment experienced in Brazil, resulting in the absence of formal jobs, serving as a tool that helps not only to try to alleviate the problem.
