It used the theoretical and methodological contribution of the economic sciences, based on the guidelines of qualitative approaches, and had as its theoretical basis the reading of articles, monographs, dissertations, as well as books and websites. The main results indicate that the emergence of Uber takes place in the context of the advance of technologies, of the sharing economies, whose services have reduced bureaucracy in the relationship between agents that offer and demand certain services. The reasons for its insertion in Brazil are the ease of access, provided by the country, i.e., free of barriers. Its rapid growth is related to the problem of unemployment experienced in Brazil, resulting in the absence of formal jobs, serving as a tool that helps not only to try to alleviate the problem. O objetivo deste trabalho é buscar entender em que contexto surge a empresa de tecnologia norte americana Uber, os fatores que propiciaram sua entrada no Brasil, bem como os motivos do seu rápido crescimento. Utilizou-se do aporte teórico-metodológico das ciências econômicas, tendo por base orientações das abordagens qualitativas, teve como base teórica as leituras de artigos, monografias, dissertações, além de livros e sites. Os principais resultados apontam que o surgimento da Uber se dá no contexto do avanço das tecnologias, das economias de compartilhamento, cujo serviços desburocratizaram a relação entre agentes ofertantes e demandantes de determinados serviços. As razões da inserção no Brasil são a facilidade de acesso, propiciado pelo país, ou seja, livre de barreiras.
