Resumo:
This descriptive work aims to present a clinical case of the installation of a space maintenance device in a 10-year-old female patient. The patient attended the dental clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry at UFAM with the main complaint of dissatisfaction with her smile. During the anamnesis, the mother reported trauma in elements 51 and 61 and the clinical examination showed prolonged retention of said elements and malocclusion. The methodology was developed in three periods: dental care at the UFAM clinic, followed by bibliographical research in the databases, and finally, based on the clinical and radiographic analysis, a treatment plan was outlined for the patient's oral rehabilitation. After extraction of the retained elements, due to the delay in the eruption of the permanent elements, it was indicated the construction of an orthodontic appliance for space maintenance, prevention of deleterious oral habits and aesthetic rehabilitation of the patient. The clinical case will be submitted to the Ethics and Research Committee of UFAM for subsequent presentation as a Course Completion Work. For this, a Hawley plate was used, and for aesthetic purposes an acrylic tooth was added. After a period of 5 months of use of the device, the central and lateral incisor erupted naturally in the mouth. From this treatment approach, the result of preventing the loss of space for adjacent elements, the emergence of deleterious habits and the formation of future more complex malocclusions was achieved.
