The lack of research that confronts the use of the terms “permanent archive” and “historical archive” brings the opportunity to present basic and bibliographical research, descriptive with a quantitative approach to the problem, which proposes a reflection on the relation of these terms according to archival theory. Considering that, being polysemic, the word archive can mean both a set of documents and a place of document storage, this research aims to present the meanings that the terms “permanent archive” and “historical archive” present in articles from journals indexed in the repository at Brapci, and relate the results with what authors in the field of archival science discuss about the terms. The objective of the research is to map the scientific production that mentions the terms, identify the academic background of the authors of the publications and categorize the articles according to the meanings that the word archive can manifest.
