Considering that, being polysemic, the word archive can mean both a set of documents and a place of document storage, this research aims to present the meanings that the terms “permanent archive” and “historical archive” present in articles from journals indexed in the repository at Brapci, and relate the results with what authors in the field of archival science discuss about the terms. The objective of the research is to map the scientific production that mentions the terms, identify the academic background of the authors of the publications and categorize the articles according to the meanings that the word archive can manifest. A lacuna existente de pesquisas que confrontem os usos dos termos “arquivo permanente” e “arquivo histórico” traz a oportunidade de apresentar uma pesquisa básica e bibliográfica, descritiva quanto seus objetivos e com abordagem quantitativa em relação ao problema, que propõe uma reflexão sobre a relação dos referidos termos de acordo com a teoria arquivística. Considerando que, sendo polissêmica, a palavra arquivo pode significar tanto um conjunto de documentos quanto um local de guarda documental, essa pesquisa tem como objetivo apresentar os sentidos que os termos “arquivo permanente” e “arquivo histórico” apresentam nos artigos de periódicos indexados no repositório da Base de Dados Referenciais de Artigos de Periódicos em Ciência da Informação, Brapci, descrever e relacionar os resultados com o que os autores da área da Arquivologia discorrem a respeito. O objetivo da pesquisa é realizar um mapeamento da produção científica que cita os termos, identificar a formação acadêmica dos autores das publicações e categorizar os artigos recuperados de acordo com sentidos que a palavra arquivo manifesta. 3 Explicações a respeito das licenças muito vagas, poderiam explicar melhor, pois é um pouco confuso em um primeiro momento.
