Despite the great utility, the tire has been a big problem for the environment, because the increase in its consumption has aggravated the problem of discarding tires, since most of the time they are discarded improperly. The present study aimed to analyze the situation of waste tires in the municipality of Itacoatiara-AM. Methodologically, the study used bibliographic research, technical visits and interviews with companies that work with this type of waste. It was found that Itacoatiara-AM has a large generation of unserviceable tires and that, almost entirely, are discarded irregularly in landfills, in water bodies and in addicted dumps. There are several environmentally appropriate alternatives such as public policies, reverse logistics, recycling companies, environmental education projects and their reuse for other purposes. Therefore, it is understood that the tires discarded in the municipality need a better destination alternative so that their impacts on the environment can be minimized and can impact positively on the municipality.
