The present study aimed to analyze the situation of waste tires in the municipality of Itacoatiara-AM. Methodologically, the study used bibliographic research, technical visits and interviews with companies that work with this type of waste. It was found that Itacoatiara-AM has a large generation of unserviceable tires and that, almost entirely, are discarded irregularly in landfills, in water bodies and in addicted dumps. There are several environmentally appropriate alternatives such as public policies, reverse logistics, recycling companies, environmental education projects and their reuse for other purposes. Therefore, it is understood that the tires discarded in the municipality need a better destination alternative so that their impacts on the environment can be minimized and can impact positively on the municipality. Apesar da grande utilidade, o pneu tem sido um grande problema para o meio ambiente, pois o aumento do seu consumo tem agravado o problema de descarte de pneus, pois na maioria das vezes são descartados de maneira indevida. O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar a situação dos pneus inservíveis no município de Itacoatiara-AM. Metodologicamente, o estudo utilizou de pesquisas bibliográficas, visitas técnicas e entrevistas com as empresas que trabalham com este tipo de resíduo. Foi verificado que Itacoatiara-AM possui uma grande geração de pneus inservíveis e que, quase em sua totalidade, são descartados de maneira irregular no lixão, em corpos hídricos e em lixeiras viciadas. Existem diversas alternativas ambientalmente adequadas como políticas públicas, logística reversa, empresas de reciclagem, projetos de educação ambiental e reutilização dos mesmos para outras finalidades.
