Childhood obesity rates have doubled in the last 30 years and, as a result, are now a major global public health problem. Obese children and adolescents have a higher risk of obesity in adulthood and, therefore, are more susceptible to risk factors for cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, metabolic and osteoarticular diseases, in addition to emotional and psychosocial impairments. Although there is no specific treatment for non-organic childhood obesity, preventive measures, such as lifestyle changes, combined with physical activity and healthy eating, are known to be effective in reducing weight and associated with reducing the risk of developing the disease. |
