This is an analysis of the uses of documentation accumulated within the scope of the Superintendence of the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage in Amazonas – IPHAN/AM since its creation in 1986 until the current year, with the general objective of identifying the uses of documents produced and received by IPHAN/AM, discussing theoretical aspects involving archival uses; to raise the status of documentation held at IPHAN/AM; and describe the potential uses of the IPHAN/AM archival collection. To this end, three possible routes for dissemination are proposed: cultural, through media and events, mainly on commemorative dates and/or everyday curiosities; the route of editorial diffusion in which publications, considered channels of communication with the outside world (of archival science), as is the case with the production of catalogs containing compilations of textual, audiovisual, iconographic and cartographic documents accumulated by the institution. And, digital access, which aims to enhance dissemination through access to all IPHAN/AM collections for researchers, students, teachers and citizens in general, with digital content in an interactive way on the institutional portal. As a result of the research, it appears that the uses of documentation are carried out by internal and external users, the latter including legal and natural persons, who limit consultation to the textual genre, perhaps because they are unaware of the existence of others. Trata-se de análise acerca dos usos da documentação acumulada no âmbito da Superintendência do Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional no Amazonas – IPHAN/AM desde a sua criação em 1986 até o ano corente, tendo por objetivo geral identificar os usos dos documentos produzidos e recebidos pelo IPHAN/AM, dissertando sobre aspectos teóricos envolvendo os usos arquísticos; em levantar a situação da documentação custodiada no IPHAN/AM; e descrever os potenciais usos do acervo arquivístico do IPHAN/AM. Para tanto, propõem-se três vias possíveis para a difusão, a cultural, por meio de mídias e eventos, principalmente em datas comemorativas e/ou curiosidades do cotidiano; a via da difusão editorial em que as publicações, consideradas canais de comunicação com o exterior (da arquivologia), como é o caso da produção de catálogos que contenham compilações de documentos textuais, audiovisuais, iconográficos, cartográficos acumulados pela instituição. E, a de acesso digital, que visa potencializar a difusão mediante o acesso a todos acervos do IPHAN/AM aos pesquisadores, estudantes, professores e aos cidadãos em geral, com conteúdos digitais de forma interativa no portal institucional.
