Water, being a vital resource for survival, must be clean and free from contamination to be suitable for human consumption. This research evaluates water quality through physico-chemical and microbiological analyses, following the standards established by the Ministry of Health in Ordinance No. 888 of 2021 and by CONAMA Resolution No. 357/2005. The methodology involves collecting samples from taps, drinking fountains, cisterns, and water tanks of the institution, through laboratory analyses to determine the presence of physical, chemical, and microbiological contaminants. The analyses were determined through volumetric, titrimetric, potentiometric methods, and the Most Probable Number (MPN) method for microbiological analysis. The parameters analyzed include electrical conductivity, temperature, pH, alkalinity, acidity, hardness, chlorides, dissolved oxygen, total coliforms, thermotolerant coliforms (E.coli), and heterotrophic bacteria. The results of the microbiological analyses established that the water at the Institute is outside the water quality standards established by the relevant ordinances consulted. It is concluded that although the results of the physico chemical analyses are within the limits established by Ordinance GM/MS No. 888, the water samples showed microbiological contamination. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the quality of water in the institution, as good quality water must ensure the health of all members of the academic community |
