Performance represents the ability of companies to generate profit with the resources available to achieve their business objectives. Furthermore, the term ESG is associated with practices focused on the environment, social responsibility and corporate governance of organizations, a topic that is increasingly present in the business world today. Therefore, the present study aimed to analyze whether companies that have ESG criteria applied in their policy present a positive financial return than those that do not. For the study, the 83 best ESG results from organizations that are listed on the Brazilian stock exchange (B3) were considered. The database considered refers to the year 2022. The relationship between the dependent variable earnings per share (LPA) and the indicators: ESG, return on assets and net margin as independent variables were evaluated. To carry out this study, the descriptive statistical method and the ordinary least squares estimation model were chosen. The statistical program determined to result in linear regression was Gretl, used in econometric research, resulting in statistical significance. The study points out that publicly traded companies that have ESG practices implemented in their business have a positive financial return. This indicates that companies that are not yet applying these criteria need to start developing and implementing this new business model to be able to attract and retain their investors. Este artigo analisa o desempenho financeiro das organizações de capital aberto relacionados aos critérios ESG. Desempenho representa a capacidade das empresas de gerarem lucro com os recursos disponíveis para alcançar os seus objetivos empresariais. Além disso, o termo ESG está associado as práticas voltadas para o meio ambiente, responsabilidade social e governança corporativa das organizações, tema cada vez mais presente no mundo dos negócios atualmente. Assim, o presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar se empresa que tem presente os critérios ESG aplicados na sua política possuem um retorno financeiro positivo em comparação aquelas que não possuem. Para o estudo foram considerados os 83 melhores resultados ESG das organizações que estão listadas na bolsa de valores brasileira (B3). A base de dados considerada refere-se ao ano de 2022. Foi avaliado a relação entre a variável dependente lucro por ação (LPA) e como variáveis independentes os indicadores: ESG, retorno sobre ativo e margem líquida. Para a realização desse estudo foi escolhido o método estatístico descritivo e o modelo de estimação dos mínimos quadrados ordinários. O programa estatístico determinado para resultar à regressão linear foi o Gretl, usado em pesquisas econométricas, tendo como resultado significâncias estatísticas. O estudo aponta que as empresas de capital aberto que se encontram com as práticas ESG implementadas no seu negócio estão com um retorno financeiro positivo.
