The objective was to describe the food consumption, according to the NOVA classification, of the adult population living in the urban area of the municipality of Coari-Amazonas, during the hydrological periods: dry and flood. This is an epidemiological study, home-based, descriptive and exploratory, cross-sectional, with a quantitative approach. The data was collected during the dry cycles in November and December 2021 and in May and June 2022 during the Solimões River flood period. Food consumption data were obtained through a 24-hour dietary record, applied during the five days of the week. Subsequently, the foods were classified according to the NOVA classification into 3 groups: group 1 (fresh or minimally processed foods); group 2+3 (food and/or culinary preparations and processed culinary ingredients); group 4 (ultra-processed foods/culinary preparations). Data from 378 adults were analyzed. During the research, a total of 7,821 foods and drinks were reported, of which around 75% belonged to group 1, 13.5% to group 2+3 and 11% of the sample in relation to Group 4. Although seasonality results in significant changes, no significant differences were observed in diet based on the classification of foods according to the degree of industrial processing. The prevalence of fresh or minimally processed foods was identified, which demonstrates the presence of healthy habits in the region, however the growing presence of ultra-processed foods highlights how important it is for public policies to be implemented and strengthened in municipalities in the interior of Amazonas. |
