The advancement of urbanization without adequate planning has brought about drastic changes in the hydrological cycle in urban areas over the decades. Sustainable drainage management encompasses the intention to enhance the infiltration of rainfall into the soil, regulate the flow of surface water, and reduce rainfall runoff more efficiently by applying techniques and conscientious use of natural resources. In this context, this study was carried out based on a case study for sustainable management of stormwater in a residential condominium located in the central-southern zone of Manaus (AM). Through qualitative exploratory research, a survey of the components and devices of the drainage system in the study area was conducted, investigating the pathologies and normative non-conformities presented. For the theoretical construction, it was necessary to study current legislation at the federal, state, and municipal levels, guidelines and regulations for stormwater and related systems, urban cases of inefficient planned drainage systems, sustainable drainage systems, studies, and applications of sustainable management in urban areas. Based on the theoretical framework and field information, after analysis, potential techniques and solutions for application in the condominium were identified, which when adopted can contribute to addressing structural deficiencies and vulnerabilities, reducing surface runoff, minimizing water expenses, increasing property value, among others. It is noteworthy that for the implementation of the proposals, a more thorough study with sizing, detailing, and local guidelines according to current standards must be carried out. |
