This paper presents a mapping of audiovisual preservation institutions and initiatives
in Brazil. Through a systematic literature review and documentary research, the main
organizations involved in the preservation of films, videos, sound recordings and other
audiovisual materials in the country were identified and analyzed, namely the National
Archives, the Audiovisual Technical Center and the Cinemateca MAM Rio de Janeiro
(Museum of Modern Art). The study highlights the fundamental role of these institutions
in the conservation, restoration, dissemination and research of Brazil's audiovisual
heritage, contributing to the nation's cultural and historical memory. This study
contributes to the understanding and appreciation of the rich diversity of Brazil's
audiovisual heritage and to the development of more effective and sustainable
preservation policies and practices.
