The present study investigates the role of school management in combating dropout rates in Youth and Adult Education (YAE). The research was conducted at the Luciney Mello Carneiro Municipal School in the municipality of Atalaia do Norte, Amazonas. In this context, the research objective was to understand the actions and challenges of the management of Luciney Mello Carneiro Municipal School in Atalaia do Norte, Amazonas, to prevent student dropout in Youth and Adult Education and encourage their learning at the school. To achieve this, the study aimed to characterize school management and YAE students in the research field; describe the actions of the school management team in combating dropout rates in YAE and encouraging student learning in this educational modality at the school; present the challenges faced by the management team to ensure the retention and learning of these students at the school; and conduct a pedagogical intervention within school management to combat dropout rates and encourage learning in YAE. The reflections on management are based on authors such as Libâneo (2008), Lück (2008 and 2009), among others, who discuss school management, as well as the Brazilian Education Law (Law No. 9,394/96), the National Education Plan (Law No. 13,005/2014), among others. The qualitative research conducted was carried out through theoretical and methodological action research. Data collection techniques included bibliographic studies, participant observation, and semi-structured interviews, and for the pedagogical intervention related to the issue under study, a lecture and workshop were conducted. The phenomenological method of data analysis was used to comprehensively cover the investigation and achieve positive results. The research showed that the school management team, led by the principal, conducts visits, individual counseling sessions with students, organizes lectures, and formative meetings on planning and student methodologies with teachers to promote student retention and learning. It is concluded that many challenges arise, as despite the actions taken by the school management, much still needs to be done to enable YAE students to remain and succeed in school, as internal and external factors within the institution require effective public policies and continuous intersectoral actions to effectively resolve the educational reality that affects the school, Atalaia do Norte, and Brazil. |
