Resumo:
This work aims to analyze aspects of deaf representation in contemporary cinema, highlighting the progress made and the challenges faced by the deaf Community. The intention is to investigate deaf representation in cinema by analyzing films featuring deaf characters, identifying advancements in terms of inclusion and authentic representation, as well as the challenges still present in this context. The study employs a qualitative approach, conducting bibliographic and filmographic analysis of selected works on the subject. Characteristics such as the authenticity of representations, the presence of deaf actors portraying dead characters, the complexity of narratives, and the contribution of the promotion of deaf culture and identities will be examined. A questionnaire was administered to deaf students in the Degree’s program in Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) Education at the Federal University of Amazonas, consisting of seven questions addressing deaf representation in cinema. Thus, the aim is to present reflections and analyze the influence of cinema, which plays a decisive role in promoting deaf representation. Given this proposal, I believe that the results of this investigation can contribute to a greater dissemination of ideas and cultural values of the deaf Community.
