Resumo:
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a disease characterized by high blood glucose levels, this occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin or cannot properly secrete the inulin produced by the cells of the pancreas. This disease is classified into type 1, type 2, gestational DM and others not yet defined. It usually affects adults and young people, but it can also affect children and adolescents depending on the type of diabetes. The forms of treatment for DM are pharmacological, through hypoglycemic medications, the non-pharmacological form based on changes in lifestyle habits, such as healthy eating and adoption of physical exercise, and also the popular use of phytotherapy through medicinal plants with hypoglycemic action for the treatment and control of the disease. This research presents an integrative review on the use of medicinal plants native to Amazonas for the treatment of DM, emphasizing the different types of diabetes, in addition to the various empirical methods used for the treatment of the disease with the aid of medicinal plants. The objective of the research is to analyze the therapeutic potential of native plants from Amazonas used in the treatment and control of DM, in addition to the risks of their use and scientific studies that prove their effectiveness, as well as to highlight the plants present in RENISUS. The methodology used in the work was an integrative review that included a search in different databases, such as Google Scholar, SciELO and CAPES journals, so that its foundations could be validated. Ten works were cataloged and analyzed according to their particularities and relationship with the central theme of the work, thus discussing what was proposed in them at the end of the research, highlighting the plants: Pata-de-vaca, Carqueja, Unha de gato e Goiabeira used for the control and treatment of the disease.
