Resumo:
Cassava cultivation in the northern region of Brazil, with a highlight on the state of Amazonas, is characterized by its great economic and social importance. Thus, the present study aimed to diagnose the cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) production chain, its use, sharing, and benefits in family farming in the Vila Amazônia settlement project. The research used a Case Study methodology, combining quantitative and qualitative methods, using a literature review and semi-structured questionnaires to understand the diagnoses that make up the production chain. The research area was the Vila Amazônia or Vila Amazônia settlement project, in the municipality of Parintins, coordinates: 2° 58’ 30” and 2° 30’ 00” (S); 56° 46’30” and 56° 30’00” (W). The actions involved family farmers from the communities of Miriti, Santana, Jerusalém, Mato Grosso, Santa Maria de Vila Amazônia, Nazaré, Bom Socorro, Paraíso, Santa Fé, N. S. das Graças and Boa Esperança in Zé Açu. Despite the challenges, cassava ensures food security for many communities and has a great economic potential. Its production chain, linked to biodiversity conservation, demands technological innovations to remain competitive. Investments in research and technical assistance are essential to strengthen family production and guarantee the development of producing regions.
