Resumo:
The study addresses the indexing of Trading Card Game (TCG) Magic: The Gathering cards in the Manaus city market, investigating the practices of information organization and retrieval employed by local retailers. The research aimed to understand the criteria used for cataloging cards, evaluate the challenges faced, and analyze how indexing influences consumer experiences as well as commercial and internal dynamics. The study adopted an applied approach using a case study method, which involved administering a structured questionnaire to representatives of a store considered representative of the market and conducting direct observation of the card organization and categorization processes. The results revealed that indexing practices are carried out manually or through hybrid methods using local systems that partially meet demands but may exhibit limitations due to the lack of standardization for this type of document, insufficient specialized training, and difficulties in updating records, particularly given the constant release of new collections. It was observed that criteria such as edition, rarity, and mana cost are used to organize the cards, though without a controlled vocabulary, which can hinder access to specific items. The research concluded that although the methods employed fulfill the basic goal of meeting customer needs, the introduction of more modern and collaborative systems with integrated digital technologies, aligned with folksonomy concepts, could optimize the process, enhance the experience for players, and strengthen the TCG market in the region. Thus, this study contributes to broadening the discussion on the application of indexing practices in specific and underexplored contexts.
