Resumo:
The riverside population of the Amazon is one of the social groups that represents the region and its way of life. However, studies investigating the production of photojournalism about the Amazon focus mainly on two issues: the representation of indigenous peoples and the coverage of environmental issues. Based on this context, this study aims to analyze studies on photojournalism practices with a focus on the representation of Amazonian riverside populations in contemporary society. Methodologically, it follows a qualitative approach with content analysis, with bibliographic research and analysis of scientific articles from 2013 to 2023, in the Capes Periódicos, Scielo and Google Scholar portals. It uses the concept of common sense arising from Moscovici's Theory of Social Representations as well as studies on images to investigate how photojournalism practices influence the perception of the riverside population in the Amazon. The study points out a gap in studies on photojournalism with the riverside population as the protagonist. It raises the need to carry out more studies on photojournalistic production in the Amazon with the aim of identifying which representations photojournalism arouses of local populations and how they impact how they are seen by society.
