The role of librarians in cataloging video games involves adapting their traditional skills of organizing and classifying information to a relatively new type of digital material. Just as they do with books and other materials, librarians need to identify and describe key elements of games, such as title, developer, release date, genre, age group, and main themes, as well as other relevant metadata to facilitate access and location of these items in the collection. This research aims to show how the role of librarians adapts and expands when including video games in library collections. Traditionally, librarians have been responsible for cataloging and organizing books and other informational materials; however, with the incorporation of digital and interactive media such as games, they face new challenges and opportunities. This paper explores cataloging techniques specific to games, including classification criteria that cover genre, age group, educational objectives, and cultural themes. In addition, the research investigates how librarians can create organizational systems that allow users to find games efficiently and intuitively, just as they do with books and other resources. Another issue addressed is the development of descriptors and metadata that capture the multimodal and interactive nature of games, differentiating them from other types of media. Finally, the study seeks to highlight the importance of curation and critical analysis of these contents by librarians, ensuring that the electronic games selected for the collection are in harmony with the educational and cultural objectives of the library and contribute to the education of users. |
